Collector Cracks Down on RO Plants, Stresses Water Quality Checks

The collector warned of strict action against units operating without valid permissions or violating quality norms

VIJAYAWADA: With summer intensifying and water consumption rising, NTR district collector Dr G. Lakshmisha has directed officials to enforce strict monitoring of drinking water quality, stressing that there will be no compromise on public health.

The collector ordered extensive inspections of RO water purification plants and drinking water supply systems across Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) limits, directing officials to ensure strict adherence to prescribed standards.

As part of the drive, Lakshmisha conducted surprise inspections at RO plants in Muthyalampadu and Satyanarayanapuram on Wednesday. He examined water sources, permission records, equipment, hygiene standards and quality testing systems.

Reiterating that safe drinking water is a top priority, he instructed officials to carry out regular inspections and display inspection schedules at all RO plants.

Officials were directed to assess water quality parameters, filtration processes, machinery performance, sanitation and maintenance during inspections. The collector warned of strict action against units operating without valid permissions or violating quality norms.

Highlighting increased summer demand, Lakshmisha stressed that there should be zero negligence in maintaining water quality and called for better inter-departmental coordination for continuous monitoring.

He also urged citizens to report any drinking water quality issues to authorities promptly.

VMC in-charge chief engineer P. Satyakumari, city medical and health officer K. Arjun Rao and other officials accompanied him during the inspection.
