Kakinada:East Godavari district collector Keerthi Chekuri on Saturday requested patients not to pressurise medical officers for X-ray examinations, stating that the procedure will be conducted only when medically necessary.
Inspecting the Community Health Centre in Kovvuru on Saturday, she advised patients that it is better to avoid X-rays when not needed, as this would save them from needless radiation exposure. “X-rays should be carried out only in critical cases based on a doctor’s recommendation,” the collector underlined.
She interacted with patients, including pregnant women, new mothers and parents of young children, and collected from them feedback on hospital services.
Later, Keerthi told reporters that medical services and hygiene standards at the Community Health Centre in Kovvuru are overall satisfactory, though there are a few deficiencies in certain areas. She directed officials to allot vacant rooms to attendants of inpatients. She said necessary arrangements in this regard must be completed within two weeks.
The collector said TB tests are being conducted at the Kovvuru centre, underlining that individuals with symptoms of tuberculosis have a high chance of full recovery if they adhere to prescribed medication.
Those present during the inspection included district coordinator of health services M. Padma and Kovvuru tahsildar D. Durga Prasad.
