Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Saturday said the coalition government has provided compassionate appointments to 287 eligible candidates within 18 months.
Speaking at the APEPDCL Training Centre in Visakhapatnam, where he distributed appointment letters to beneficiaries, the minister said the government had adopted a humane approach towards families that lost their breadwinners. “This is a major step to provide timely support and livelihood security to bereaved families,” he said.
The minister, along with APEPDCL CMD Prudhvitej Immadi, reviewed power sector operations under the APEPDCL jurisdiction and outlined key initiatives aimed at improving service delivery and strengthening infrastructure.
Stressing that “the farmer is the king” for the coalition government, Ravi Kumar directed officials to expedite electricity connections for agricultural pump sets without delay. He underlined the need to support the farming community by ensuring timely and uninterrupted power supply.
The minister credited Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu with spearheading power sector reforms focused on efficiency, transparency and consumer welfare. He highlighted the government’s decision to reduce tariffs by 13 paise to ease the burden on consumers.
He said the government is also extending electricity access to previously underserved habitations and tribal hamlets through solar power solutions, ensuring coverage without placing additional financial burden on consumers.
Reviewing the progress of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), Ravi Kumar instructed officials to complete Phase I works on priority to facilitate a smooth transition to Phase II. Officials informed him that over 60 new substations are expected to be commissioned by March 2026, improving power reliability and reducing outages across the APEPDCL area.
The minister also directed officials to intensify awareness campaigns on the PM Surya Ghar scheme to boost rooftop solar connections and promote the adoption of renewable energy.
