CM Reaffirms State’s Commitment to Welfare and Growth of BCs

CM assures action on reservations, welfare demands raised by BC leaders

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday reaffirmed his government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and advancement of Backward Communities (BCs), promising them that sustained efforts would be made to ensure equitable development.

Leaders of the Andhra Pradesh BC welfare association met the CM at the secretariat and submitted representations highlighting their major requirements from the government.

The delegation, led by state president Kesana Sankara Rao and national president J Srinivas Goud, urged the CM to take up critical issues with the Centre.

Foremost among their pleas was the constitution of a special BC Commission and the enactment of a protective legislation to safeguard the rights and interests of BC communities. They also appealed for reservations for BCs in proportion to their population, requesting the CM to initiate discussions with the Centre on this matter.

The delegation sought the implementation of 34 per cent reservations in local bodies, establishment of a separate ministry for OBCs at the national level, and the formulation of an OBC sub-plan with a dedicated budget allocation. Filling the backlog in vacancies for government departments was cited as another major priority for BCs.

The CM assured these leaders that issues falling under the Centre’s purview would be taken up with the Union government. He reiterated his resolve to ensure “complete justice” for the BC communities.

BC leaders expressed confidence in the state’s alliance government, saying the welfare and uplift of BCs were being effectively addressed under its leadership. They credited the government with several welfare measures, including free power supply to handloom weavers, financial assistance to fishermen during fishing ban periods, withdrawal of GO 217, 10 per cent reservations for toddy tappers, and reservation in mining for Vaddera communities.

The BC leaders said the meeting underscored the growing demand for institutional safeguards and targeted welfare policies aimed at empowering BC communities across the state.
