CM Promises Steps To Tackle El Niño Impact As CPI Seeks Help for Farmers
Government to raise awareness and ensure drinking water supply amid rainfall deficit
Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said the state government is taking measures to tackle the impact of El Niño and prevent drinking water shortages.
He was responding to concerns raised by CPI national secretary K Ramakrishna over drought-like conditions affecting farmers across Andhra Pradesh.
Ramakrishna met the CM at the secretariat and submitted a representation. He urged the government to encourage alternative crop cultivation in areas affected by the dry spell.
The CPI leader noted that 21 districts had recorded 54 per cent deficit rainfall and severe drought conditions prevailed in 249 mandals. Farmers were struggling due to inadequate rains and required government assistance.
Ramakrishna also sought steps to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply, particularly in drought-affected regions.
Naidu said the government was taking necessary measures to mitigate the El Nino impact. Awareness programmes would be conducted across the state from August 3 to educate farmers and the public about precautionary measures. Directions had been issued to the official machinery to ensure that drinking water problems did not arise anywhere in the state, Naidu said.
