CM Pitches Circular Economy Model For Thukivakam Waste Plant

During the visit, the Chief Minister reviewed various units at the plant, examined ongoing processes, and posed several queries to officials regarding recycling and waste utilisation methods.

Tirupati:Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has proposed transforming the Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) Plant at Thukivakam in Renigunta mandal of Tirupati district into a model hub for circular economy practices. He made the proposal during an inspection of the facility on Saturday.

During the visit, the Chief Minister reviewed various units at the plant, examined ongoing processes, and posed several queries to officials regarding recycling and waste utilisation methods. Emphasising the state’s commitment to sustainable practices, he instructed officials to ensure that all collected waste is effectively recycled and reused.

Naidu underlined the importance of real-time processing and called for expanding the plant’s coverage area to include waste generated within a 40–50 kilometre radius, including Tirupati city. He stressed the need to fully utilise nearby Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plants for processing non-recyclable waste and suggested replicating similar models in Visakhapatnam and other regions to strengthen the state’s waste management ecosystem.

Highlighting the potential of waste-to-resource conversion, the Chief Minister directed that recyclable materials be segregated efficiently, while residual waste be diverted to WTE plants for energy generation. He sought detailed information on water treatment at the facility, the proportion of vegetable waste converted into compost or fertiliser, and whether kitchen and market waste were being effectively utilised.

“We must ensure Andhra Pradesh becomes a national benchmark in waste management,” Naidu said, urging officials to explore the feasibility of supplying gas produced from waste to hotels through a buyback model, thereby boosting revenue and resource efficiency.

Ministers Anagani Satya Prasad and Dr Ponguru Narayana, Swachha Andhra Corporation Chairman K. Pattabhi Ram, Srikalahasti MLA Bojjala Sudheer Reddy, Collector Dr S. Venkateswar, Tirupati Municipal Commissioner N. Mourya, Municipal Administration Secretary Suresh Kumar, and other officials accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit.

Later, the Chief Minister visited the Kapilatheertham temple and offered prayers to Lord Kapileswara Swamy. After darshan, Naidu donned an apron like a sanitation worker and personally cleaned the temple premises. He swept the area with a broom and wiped it down, also interacting with sanitation staff and posing for a group photograph with them. Before concluding his Tirupati visit, he called on Kanchi Mutt seer Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamiji and received his blessings.
