CM Naidu Says State Committed To Protect Migrant Workers Abroad

Her husband Abubakar lodged a complaint with APNRTS, following which the state government and the organisation intervened. APNRTS wrote to the embassy and police held talks with the travel agents.

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday said the state government was committed to protecting migrant workers abroad and appreciated the efforts of the AP Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) in facilitating the return of a stranded woman from Muscat.

Dudekula Shahnaz, a native of Vayalapadu village in Annamayya district, travelled to Muscat for work last November but sought to return after being dissatisfied with the job. When she attempted to come back, her travel agent allegedly confiscated her mobile phone and demanded Rs 2 lakh towards expenses.

Her husband Abubakar lodged a complaint with APNRTS, following which the state government and the organisation intervened. APNRTS wrote to the embassy and police held talks with the travel agents.

During the discussions, the agents agreed to send her back to Andhra Pradesh at their own expense. She is expected to reach India on May 7.
