CM Naidu Recalls His 53-Day Jail Term During YSRC Rule, Thanks People For Support

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday recalled his 53-day incarceration three years ago. He thanked the people who stood by him during the period, saying their affection and support would remain unforgettable.
In a post on X marking the third anniversary of his release from Rajahmundry Central Prison, the AP CM said he had been arrested at Nandyal in the middle of the night without being served a notice. He described the arrest as illegal and politically motivated, alleging that the then government had sought to suppress the opposition for questioning its administration.
Naidu confessed that the 53 days represented the most difficult period of his four-and-a-half-decade political career. He said he had returned to the people following a court verdict and attempts to isolate him through imprisonment had been defeated by the collective response of the Telugu people.
He thanked people from Andhra Pradesh, other parts of the country, and from more than 60 countries for voluntarily expressing solidarity with him and protesting against the previous government's actions.
The Chief Minister particularly recalled the CBN Gratitude programme at Gachibowli Stadium, where thousands of young people, software professionals, and other employees had gathered to express their support despite restrictions.
He maintained that people who had secured employment through reforms and opportunities introduced during his tenure had voluntarily taken to the streets to express their gratitude.
Naidu said support had come from all sections, including village women, farmers, students, software professionals, corporate CEOs, and non-resident Indians. He recalled that his wife and family members, who generally stayed away from politics, had reached out to people through the “Nijam Gelavali” campaign and received public support.
The CM said the response demonstrated how good governance and opportunities created for people could earn lasting public support. "I will uphold your love, affection, and trust throughout my life. I will stand by you until my last breath, just as you stood by me," he added.
