CM Chandrababu Naidu Lays Stone for Rs 126-Crore Water Project
Project to flow Krishna waters to Tirupati district

Tirupati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday laid the foundation for a Rs 126-crore water project at Naravaripalle village in the Chandragiri constituency.
The project aims at bringing Krishna River waters to Tirupati district to strengthen the region’s irrigation and drinking water supplies.
The plan is to draw water from the Handri–Neeva branch canal and flow it to the Kalyani dam through a combination of lift and gravity pipelines. Water would be lifted by about 10 metres at the 53-km point of the canal and diverted to local tanks before reaching the dam.
The scheme is expected to provide irrigation to more than 1,100 acres and ensure reliable drinking water supply to Tirupati city and the Tirumala hill shrine.
Tanks at Moolapalle, Kondreddy Kandriga, Kaniti Madugu, Nagapatla and Venkatarayani would be replenished, restoring ayacut areas and benefiting the farmers in nearby villages. The Moolapalle tank would receive 10 million cubic feet of water to irrigate 259 acres, Kondreddy Kandriga 4.40 million cubic feet for 111 acres, Kaniti Madugu 8 million cubic feet for 500 acres, Nagapatla 6 million cubic feet for 168 acres and Venkatarayani 3.90 million cubic feet for 116 acres.
Nearly 400 million cubic feet of water would be diverted to the Kalyani dam to meet the drinking water needs. The project would be completed within two years and supply water for about 120 days each year.
