CM Appreciates ‘Abhayam Helmet Bank’ Initiative in Srikakulam

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said such programmes play an important role in reducing road accidents and saving lives

VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has appreciated the ‘Abhayam Helmet Bank’ initiative launched by the Srikakulam district police during his visit to the ‘Swarna Andhra – Swachh Andhra’ programme held at Narasannapeta on Friday.

The Chief Minister visited the ‘Abhayam Helmet Bank’ stall set up at the Praja Vedika venue, where Srikakulam superintendent of police K.V. Maheswara Reddy explained the objectives and implementation of the programme.

The SP informed the Chief Minister that the initiative had been introduced to prevent road accidents and promote helmet usage among two-wheeler riders. Under the programme, motorists found travelling without helmets are temporarily provided one by the police and are required to purchase a new helmet within 48 hours and return it to the Helmet Bank.

Police officials said the initiative was helping create awareness on road safety and encouraging responsible riding habits among the public.

Appreciating the concept, Naidu said such programmes play an important role in reducing road accidents and saving lives. He stressed that wearing helmets should become a mandatory practice for every two-wheeler rider and advised the police department to expand the awareness campaign further among the public.

In a symbolic gesture promoting road safety, the Chief Minister wore a helmet and mounted a Bullet motorcycle at the venue.
