Cleanliness Symbol of Self-Respect, Says Prakasam Collector

NELLORE: Prakasam district collector P. Rajababu said cleanliness was a symbol of self-respect and could give villages a distinct identity.

Participating in an awareness programme at R.L. Puram village in Chimakurthy mandal on Saturday under the Swarna Andhra–Swachh Andhra initiative, Rajababu, along with Santhanuthalapadu MLA B.N. Vijay Kumar, joined sanitation workers in desilting drainage channels. They also planted saplings and inspected the village’s waste-to-wealth centre.

Addressing villagers, the collector said cleanliness required greater attention in areas with mining and industrial activity. He assured that necessary infrastructure would be provided in R.L. Puram and directed officials to take steps to construct roads wherever required to prevent dust pollution.

Rajababu said the state government was according high priority to sanitation and noted that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was participating in Swachh Andhra programmes in different districts on the third Saturday of every month. The district administration was also working in the same spirit, he added.

Vijay Kumar said cleanliness was essential for good health and urged people to participate in the monthly Swarna Andhra–Swachh Andhra programmes.

Four sanitation workers were felicitated by the collector, MLA and officials for their service.
