Amaravati: In a relief to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, a local court in Vijayawada has closed a case filed against him over his alleged involvement in the misappropriation of funds from the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation, which, according to the case, caused a loss of over Rs 300 crore to the state exchequer.
Naidu had spent more than 50 days in the Rajamahendravaram Central Prison before the Andhra Pradesh High Court granted him bail on October 31, 2023. Andhra Pradesh Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas said the CID found no involvement of the Chief Minister and accordingly filed a memo in the court, which was accepted by the judicial officer.
Chandrababu Naidu was arrested on September 9, 2023, during YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure as chief minister, in connection with allegations of misuse of public funds in a project run by the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC). The project was intended to train unemployed youth and set up skill development centres across the state. The AP CID accused Naidu of violating procedures in forming the corporation and approving funds. They also claimed his signature appeared on key documents linked to the scheme, making him a central figure in the case.
After hearing arguments on Monday, 12 January, the ACB court accepted the CID’s submission stating that there was no substance in the case regarding his role and ordered closure of the cases against Chandrababu Naidu and 36 others," Dammalapati Srinivas said.
