Chittoor Flags 25 Black Spots, Steps Up Road Safety Measures
Awareness campaigns have been held in high-risk zones, and enforcement teams have been deployed for continuous monitoring.

Tirupati: The Chittoor district administration has identified 25 accident-prone black spots across five national highways and launched corrective steps to reduce road fatalities. The measures include engineering changes, enhanced signage, and stricter enforcement drives.
District Collector Sumit Kumar, in a statement on Thursday, said the move followed a detailed analysis of accident data. He stressed the need for public cooperation, stating, “Road safety is a shared responsibility. The government is upgrading infrastructure and awareness, but public adherence to traffic rules is vital.”
The black spots span key junctions and sharp curves along NH-69, NH-42, NH-40, NH-140, and NH-716. Notable among them are MSR Cross, Mogili Ghat near Srini Food Factory, Gollapalli Cross, and Murakambattu Junction.
In 2024 alone, these locations recorded 249 light vehicle accidents and 209 two-wheeler crashes, resulting in 510 injuries and 228 deaths, including 128 two-wheeler fatalities. By March 2025, another 116 accidents led to 153 injuries and 51 deaths.
Major causes included overspeeding, drunk driving, mobile use while driving, and neglect of helmets and seatbelts. The collector warned that violators would face strict legal consequences.
Awareness campaigns have been held in high-risk zones, and enforcement teams have been deployed for continuous monitoring. “Helmets, seatbelts, speed limits, and traffic signals are non-negotiable,” the collector said. “Every life matters and we must prevent avoidable tragedies.”
