Chittoor Distributes 6.7 Crore Covers Ahead of Mango Harvest
Officials said harvesting is expected to begin from the last week of May

TIRUPATI: The Chittoor district administration has distributed around 6.70 crore protection covers to farmers ahead of the mango harvesting season.
At a review meeting held at the collectorate on Wednesday, district collector Sumit Kumar assessed crop conditions, mango pulp stocks and preparedness of processing industries.
Officials said harvesting is expected to begin from the last week of May. The collector directed horticulture officials to hold discussions with mango pulp industry managements on availability of packing material and storage capacity.
He asked officials to conduct field inspections of pulp units and submit details on operational units, production capacity and stock availability. Reports were sought on units in Bangarupalyam, Puthalapattu and Kuppam, while IDA (Agriculture) officials were asked to inspect units in Thavanampalle mandal.
Reviewing schemes, the collector directed utilisation of the remaining `50 lakh under the RKVY scheme and asked officials to expedite works under the MIDH scheme.
He also instructed officials to create awareness among farmers on alternative crops and directed marketing officials to assess mango collection centres and procurement details from the previous season. Officials were asked to ensure accurate e-cropping bookings for the kharif season.
