Chemists, Druggists Call for Nationwide Bandh Today

Vijayawada:The All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists has called for a nationwide one-day bandh on Wednesday, urging the Central government to disallow e-pharmacies, stop predatory pricing of medicines by corporate pharma companies and withdraw emergency notifications issued during the Covid-19 period.

Meanwhile, the Drugs Control Administration has taken precautionary measures to ensure uninterrupted availability of medicines to the public.

NTR district Drugs Control Administration assistant director P. Srirama Murthy said selected medical shops in important centres, pharmacies attached to hospitals, clinics and nursing homes, generic medical shops functioning in government hospital premises and all MedPlus stores in the district would remain open during the bandh to meet emergency medical needs.

He said all drug inspectors had been instructed to closely monitor the situation and coordinate with medical shop operators, hospital authorities and local officials to ensure uninterrupted medicine supply.

The public has been advised not to panic as adequate arrangements have been made to ensure continuous availability of medicines.

The NTR district chemists and druggists association and the Krishna district wholesale drug trade association released contact numbers of medical shops that would supply emergency medicines during the bandh.

The shops include Sai Durga Medical and Fancy Store, Nakkala Road (9246344463); Ravi Medical Stores, Patamata (9014909889); Gayatri Medical and Fancy Stores, Bandar Road (9290977999); Shanmukha Medical Stores, Bhavanipuram (9440139320); Ganesh Medical and Fancy Stores, Krishnalanka (9247151138); and Neelima Medicals, Gunadala (944130906).
