Centre Selects Kakinada as Street Food Hub
The secretary to the ministry announced this during a high-level video conference he led with a select group of urban local bodies from across states.

Kakinada:Kakinada has been selected as the first city in Andhra Pradesh to implement the prestigious Street Food Hub project initiated by the Union housing and urban affairs ministry.
The secretary to the ministry announced this during a high-level video conference he led with a select group of urban local bodies from across states.
The central government would release Rs 4 crore for the project. KMC would build the 50 shops for sale of hygienic food items including vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes -- in particular marine food -- at the Wharf Road beside the canal.
A 10-member committee will be formed with departments like FSSI, PCB, municipal corporation etc to formulate the rules and regulations as per the central government guidelines and select 50 vendors for the purpose.
KMC commissioner NVV Satyanarayana told Deccan Chronicle that this selection would not only bring national recognition to the city but also create better business opportunities for street food vendors and ensure the availability of hygienic, high-quality food for the people.
He gave a power-point presentation on the food hub, its necessity and accessibility in Kakinada, to the central government officials. He said a detailed project report would be prepared and sent to the central government for its approval.
After approval, the project would commence within a year.
Satyanarayana said, “Kakinada is a good business centre and many people are arriving in Kakinada and returning to their destinations every day. There exists an Eat Street near PR College Road in Kakinada.”
The street food hub, he said, would provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for street food vendors while ensuring that consumers have access to safe and high-quality food.
The project would offer further support to beneficiaries of the PM SVANidhi Scheme. KMC, he said, would take steps to transform Kakinada into a model street food hub in the country in accordance with the Union ministry’s guidelines.
Representatives from Puri in Odisha, Manali in Himachal Pradesh, Tangmarg in Kashmir, Nathdwara in Rajasthan and Indore in Madhya Pradesh participated in the conference along with Kakinada.
