Centre rolls out PM-JANMAN to uplift PVTG communities with ₹24,000 crore outlay

Visakhapatnam: Central government has launched Pradhan the Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) with a financial outlay of ₹24,000 crore to provide basic facilities, including safe housing, clean drinking water, sanitation, education, healthcare, connectivity and sustainable livelihood opportunities for the particularly vulnerable tribal group (PVTG) households and habitations.
Under this programme, ITDA Seethampeta is developing 551 PVTG habitations spread across 15 mandals, covering a tribal population of 66,965 Adivasi residing in 17,616 households.
Its initiative has seen substantial progress with 1,742 houses sanctioned with an outlay of ₹400.46 crores. Construction has already begun on 673 houses, which is targeted to be completed by October 2025.
Complementing these are six major road works covering 13.70 kilometres involving an investment of ₹102.4 crores, scheduled for completion by September 2025.
Water security remains a priority, with 26 drinking water schemes sanctioned for ₹29.3 crores, all in progress currently and expected to be completed by November 2025.
The program has operationalised 27 Anganwadi centres to support early childhood development. Additionally, 15 multipurpose centres have been sanctioned with an outlay of ₹90 crore, with two already completed and 13 others in various stages of construction.

To address educational needs, three hostels have been sanctioned with a budget of ₹69 crore. Two hostels are currently under construction, while a tender process is going on for the third hostel.
Under the initiative, 551 tribal habitations have been electrified. For improved communication, 26 BSNL cell towers have been sanctioned and made operational.
The initiative has led to establishment of 38 Village Development and Knowledge Centres (VDVKs) with an investment of ₹19 crore.

Further, 5,211 Aadhaar cards have been distributed, along with 1,345 Ayushman Bharat cards, 567 PM Kisan Samman Nidhi cards, 45 PM Jan Dhan Yojana cards, and 27 PM Matru Vandana Yojana cards. In addition, 116 forest rights pattas and 3,564 caste certificates have been distributed.
Under the District Administration Janjati Gaurav Utthan Abhiyan (DA JGUA), 34 villages across 13 mandals with tribal populations exceeding 50 per cent are receiving special attention.
Three Government Tribal Welfare Ashram High Schools at Peddamadi, Vennelavalasa and Bommika have received a funding of ₹133.55 crore. They include ₹22 crore for construction of classrooms, ₹71.7 crore for hostel buildings, ₹27 crore for teacher and staff quarters, ₹2.2 crore for furniture, and ₹10.65 crore for repairs and renovations.
