Central help to VSP a moment etched in steel for AP, declares CM

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu declared that Friday marks a “historic moment etched in steel” for Andhra Pradesh.

“It is an emotional and proud moment for the people of Andhra Pradesh, as the union government, in response to state government’s consistent efforts since formation of the NDA government, has approved ₹11,440 crore for reviving the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP),” the CM emphasised at a media briefing here on Friday.

Welcoming the central government's package, he expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman and union steel minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for their support to VSP.

Chandrababu Naidu stated, “Visakhapatnam Steel Plant is a vital industry for the people of Andhra Pradesh. Overcoming numerous challenges of the past, it has been saved through strong coordination between the NDA government at the centre and the TD-led government in the state. We have achieved what seemed impossible in the past seven months. VSP will soon see greater development.”

Taking to X on the occasion, the AP Chief Minister wrote, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister, @narendramodi Ji for his unwavering support to the Steel Plant which, I assure, will contribute to the PM’s vision of nation building as part of Viksit Bharat – Viksit Andhra… Vizag Steel Plant is more than just a factory—it stands as a monument to struggles and spirit of the people of Andhra Pradesh... This was not merely an election promise; it was a deeply personal commitment we were determined to honour. Good days ahead for Andhra Pradesh,” Naidu noted.

Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan too took to X and wrote, "The sacrifice of Amruta Rao and countless others who gave their lives for Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in 1966 burns eternal in our hearts. Their blood and tears laid the foundation for what stands today not just as a factory, but as the pride and identity of Telugu people. Today, the NDA government's decision to provide a financial package of ₹11,440 crores for the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant isn't merely a number – it represents renewed hope for thousands of families, for every worker whose hands have shaped steel, for every employee who has dedicated years of service, and for every contractor who has stood by this plant through its challenges,” the Deputy CM observed.

Minister Nara Lokesh said on X: “The state's pride and crown jewel, the Vizag Steel Plant, will be revived and revitalised with a special package of ₹11,440 crore, approved by Prime Minister @narendramodi Ji. Watching from close quarters, I saw how @ncbn strived to keep his election promise to save the ailing steel plant from closing down. Armed with wings of steel, Andhra Pradesh will soar to new heights, transforming millions of lives for the better,” Lokesh predicted.
