Census-2027 to Begin With Digital House Listing Phase in Tirupati

Tirupati:District collector Dr S. Venkatewar on Tuesday announced that the initial phase of Census-2027 in the district would focus on house listing and housing census, and the entire exercise will be implemented through a completely digital platform. He said the enumeration would be conducted using the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS), marking a shift from the manual methods followed in previous censuses.

The collector made these remarks while inaugurating a three-day district-level training programme on digital census procedures in S.V. University, Tirupati. The programme is aimed at preparing district and allied department officials who will participate in the first phase of the census.

Pointing out that the national census is being conducted after nearly 15 years, he underscored the importance of carrying out the process in an organised and accountable manner. He instructed officials to perform their responsibilities carefully and in coordination with senior authorities.

As per the administrative structure, the district collector will serve as the principal census officer, the joint-collector as the additional census officer and the district revenue officer as the district census officer. In municipal corporations, commissioners will head census operations, supported by supervisors and enumerators at the mandal level.

He added that a state-appointed special officer will monitor the district’s progress. Master trainers will be identified and trained, who will subsequently train field-level staff. The collector stressed that the digital census must strictly follow prescribed guidelines to avoid mistakes.
