Tirupati: The annual Sri Padmavathi Parinayotsavam, marking the celestial wedding of Lord Venkateswara with His divine consorts Sri Devi and Bhu Devi, commenced on a grand note on Tuesday at the Dasavatara Astalakshmi Mandapam in Narayanagiri Gardens.

Thousands of devotees thronged the tastefully decorated venue to witness the spiritually rich three-day event. The celebrations began with the processional deity of Lord Malayappa Swamy being brought on the Gaja Vahanam, followed by His consorts, Sri Devi and Bhu Devi, carried on separate palanquins, adorned with dazzling jewellery.

Traditional Hindu wedding rituals including Edurkolu and Poobantata were performed amid a divine atmosphere. The mandapam was richly decorated with nearly one tonne of fruits, two tonnes of traditional flowers, and 30,000 cut flowers. Over 150 garden staff and 50 electrical personnel worked tirelessly to create the vibrant setup.

Adding to the spiritual ambience were Vedic chants of the Chaturvedas and classical instrumental music in ragas such as Malahari, Neelambari, Kadana Kutuhala, Varahi, and Desika, performed in Eka tala.

TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu, Additional EO Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary, Temple Dy. EO M. Lokanatham, other TTD officials, and a large number of pilgrims participated in the divine wedding festivities.
