CCTV Surveillance for All SC Hostels, Says Social Welfare Minister Dola

The minister underscored the role of hostel welfare officers as custodians and guides for students. He stressed clean premises, nutritious food, and health care.

Visakhapatnam: Social welfare minister Dr Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy announced that CCTV cameras will soon be installed in all SC hostels across Andhra Pradesh.

During a review in Parvathipuram Manyam district on Saturday, the minister said the initiative was part of the state government’s broader effort to enhance student safety and welfare, guided by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Minister for Human Resources Nara Lokesh.

The state has sanctioned Rs 143 crore for hostel repairs, of which Rs 3 crore is allotted to Parvathipuram district. Another Rs 3 crore is sanctioned for a new hostel building there.

The minister underscored the role of hostel welfare officers as custodians and guides for students. He stressed clean premises, nutritious food, and health care. He warned that no child should be sent home in case of illness as the government would bear all medical costs.

He said the government spends Rs 16 lakh per child and that UPSC coaching will soon start in Visakhapatnam, followed by Vijayawada and Tirupati. Health welfare officers have been appointed, and ANMs will visit hostels weekly.
