Bride Discards Mangalasutra Soon After Marriage in Annavaram

The bride's parents told the police that their daughter wants to marry a film actor and questioned how such a thing could be possible

Kakinada: A bride discarded her mangalasutra soon after her wedding atop the Annavaram hill shrine on Saturday, saying the ritual has been performed against her will.

According to sources, the bride (22) of Palnadu district and bridegroom (42) of Nellore district are from different castes and it is an arranged marriage.

After the marriage ceremonies ended, the bride started weeping. Following this, some of the pilgrims intervened and asked her why. She responded that the marriage has been performed against her will.

At this, parents of the bride told the pilgrims and the security personnel of the temple that the marriage has been performed in the interests of the bride.

Around this time, Annavaram police entered the scene. The bride’s parents informed them that they are very poor and the marriage has been performed after taking the consent of the bride. The entire expenses, including of the clothes for the bride have been borne by the bridegroom. They said the bride herself bought the clothes costing ₹40,000. But she changed her mind soon after the marriage and discarded the mangalasutra.

Parents of the bride went on to tell the police that their daughter wants to marry a cinema actor and wondered how such a thing could be possible.

Annavaram police then counselled both the bride and bridegroom’s parties. After the counselling, the bride told the police that she would remarry the bridegroom in her village.
