“At first, we thought he might be sulking nearby. But when he did not return, we grew extremely worried and lodged a complaint”: Boy’s father

KADAPA: A 14-year-old boy from Proddatur in Kadapa district cycled nearly 100 kilometres after being scolded by his father in an attempt to get away to another state, before police traced him. The incident came to light recently. Satya
According to police, Narayana Jitendranath, a Class IX student of Jeevana Jyothi School in Proddatur, left his house on April 9 after his father, Narasimha, reprimanded him. Unlike most children who stay away briefly, the boy set out on his bicycle along with his school bag. He travelled overnight through Rajupalem and Chagalamarri and continued pedalling till he reached Nandyal in the morning.
On reaching Nandyal, the boy reportedly tried to sell his bicycle but failed. He then abandoned it near the Nandyal Railway Station and boarded a train to Raichur in Karnataka.
The boy’s father said: “At first, we thought he might be sulking nearby. But when he did not return, we grew extremely worried and lodged a complaint.”
Proddatur One Town police launched a search operation. “We treated the case as a priority,” said circle inspector Kondareddy. Police teams first searched lodges and hotels in Nandyal, where they found the abandoned bicycle. “Based on CCTV footage, we identified that the boy had boarded a train to Raichur,” ASI Joshua said.
Acting swiftly, police rushed to Raichur, traced the boy and brought him back to Proddatur. “We have handed over the boy to his parents and counselled them,” the inspector said.
Narayana Jitendranath’s parents expressed their relief and gratitude saying, “We cannot thank the Proddatur police for safely bringing back our child.”
Many have expressed astonishment at the boy’s determination, underlining that even travelling 100 km on a motorcycle is tiring. But the boy managed the journey entirely on a bicycle.
