BJP Leader Urges Somireddy To Take Paddy Farmers’ Issue To CM

MLA to intervene so that paddy farmers, who depend entirely on agriculture for their livelihood, are not pushed into financial distress: BJP leader Midathala Ramesh

NELLORE: BJP leader Midathala Ramesh has appealed to Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy to bring the problems of farmers who cultivated the MTU 1010 variety of paddy to the notice of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and seek a solution.

During a meeting with Somireddy here on Saturday, Ramesh pointed out that in the erstwhile Nellore district, the MTU 1010 variety of paddy has been cultivated on about 80,000 acres.

However, government officials have reportedly stated that this variety will not be procured under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme. “This decision is causing severe injustice to farmers. They are being forced to sell their produce at a loss of nearly ₹5,000 per acre compared to MSP. Worse still, officials are treating them as if they made a mistake by cultivating this crop,” Ramesh said.

He urged the MLA to intervene so that paddy farmers, who depend entirely on agriculture for their livelihood, are not pushed into financial distress.
