Bindra Takes Charge as VPA Chairperson
Bindra has held several key positions across the railway and coal sectors, gaining expertise in operations, commercial management and safety

Visakhapatnam: J.S. Bindra formally assumed charge as chairperson of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority on May 20, bringing with him nearly three decades of experience in logistics and transportation.
An officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) from the 1996 batch, Bindra has held several key positions across the railway and coal sectors, gaining expertise in operations, commercial management and safety.
Before taking charge at VPA, he served as principal chief operations manager of the South East Central Railway at Bilaspur. Between 2023 and 2025, he worked as divisional railway manager in Ranchi before moving to the Railway Board in New Delhi as executive director for Gati Shakti.
His career also includes a five-year tenure as director in the Ministry of Coal, during which he served on the boards of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited and Singareni Collieries Company Limited.
Bindra holds a BTech in Electronics Engineering from National Institute of Technology Jalandhar, an MBA from Guru Nanak Dev University and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from University of California, Berkeley.
He has received several honours and awards during his career and has represented India at international conferences, intergovernmental meetings and seminars.
Officials said Bindra’s wide-ranging experience in logistics and transportation is expected to strengthen the strategic role of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority.
