As many as 1,500 bicycles were distributed to rural students in Kalyandurg under the Amilineni Vidya Chakram initiative.
As many as 1,500 bicycles were distributed to students of Classes IX and X and Intermediate in rural areas of the Kalyandurg assembly constituency under the Amilineni Vidya Chakram initiative on Sunday.
MLA Amilineni Surendra Babu, SRC chairman Muthineni Rajagopal, Devineni Venkatesh, Mahidhar Reddy, SRC MD Amilineni Yashwanth, Muthineni Rahul Aditya and Devineni Avinash participated in the distribution programme at the Karanam Chikkappa sports ground in Kalyandurg town.
The organisers said a total of 7,300 bicycles would be distributed to students of Classes IX and X and Intermediate across the constituency. The programme, aimed at helping rural students commute to educational institutions, was taken up with an expenditure of around `5 crore.
MLA Surendra Babu said his family continued to depend on agriculture and that he believed in extending whatever help possible to people in need.
He attributed the large-scale welfare initiatives being taken in the constituency to the support extended by the SRC organisation and its members. He also acknowledged the contribution of SRC employees and the organisation’s CFO Sheema in mobilising funds for various programmes.
Students of SVGPM Degree College had also sought bicycles. The MLA announced that 500 bicycles would soon be distributed to degree college students as well.
Students and parents from Karanam Chikkappa School, Girls’ High School, North High School, Model School and Junior College, besides TDP leaders, attended the programme.
