Bharath Pledges Rs1 Crore Donation For Thalassemia Centre

The announcement was made during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the TGV Bhavan, where the thalassemia centre is being set up on the Kurnool Blood Bank premises.

Kurnool: Industries, commerce and food processing minister T.G. Bharath announced a donation of ₹1 crore for the establishment of a thalassemia centre in Kurnool and handed over a cheque for ₹25 lakh to the Red Cross Society.

The announcement was made during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the TGV Bhavan, where the thalassemia centre is being set up on the Kurnool Blood Bank premises. Kurnool MP Bastipati Nagaraju also attended the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said his family remained committed to the development of Kurnool beyond political considerations. Marking the birthday of his father, former minister and MP T.G. Venkatesh, the TGV Group pledged support for the centre, which will provide regular blood transfusion services to thalassemia patients.

Bharath directed officials to complete construction of the building within three months.

The minister also highlighted efforts to upgrade the Kurnool Government General Hospital to corporate standards and the proposed Knowledge Centre project to be developed on 70 cents of land at an estimated cost of ₹60 crore.

MP Nagaraju said the proposed 20-bed thalassemia centre would benefit patients from Andhra Pradesh as well as neighbouring Karnataka and Telangana. He also announced ₹9 lakh from MPLADS funds for procuring a microtome machine for the Kurnool Cancer Hospital.
