Bed Rolls Catch Fire in AC Coach of Puri-Tirupati Express

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Rajahmundry, the incident occurred around 5.30 am in coach B-5 after the train crossed Tuni

Vijayawada: A minor fire mishap was reported in the Puri-Tirupati (17479) Express on Thursday morning when a set of bed rolls caught fire in an AC coach near Hamsavaram in East Godavari district.

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Rajahmundry, the incident occurred around 5.30 am in coach B-5 after the train crossed Tuni. Members of a family occupying berths 1 to 6 noticed smoke emanating from the bed roll storage area and alerted the coach attendant, TTE and railway staff.

By the time officials reached the spot, the bed rolls had caught fire. The flames were quickly doused using fire extinguishers. No injuries were reported.

The train was halted briefly at Hamsavaram and later taken to Rajahmundry railway station, where the affected coach was thoroughly inspected before being cleared for onward journey. The incident resulted in a delay of over an hour, with the train departing Rajahmundry at 9.52 am instead of 8.30 am.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that careless disposal of cigarette butts may have caused the fire. The GRP registered a case and investigation was underway.
