Bapatla Police Rescue 6-Month-Old Infant, Nab Kidnappers In 24 Hours

Following sustained efforts, Bapatla police apprehended all four accused and safely rescued the infant. The child was handed over to the parents on Saturday.

Bapatla: District Police rescued a six-month-old baby and arrested four people within 24 hours of a kidnapping reported from Chirala town in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.

According to Bapatla district Superintendent of Police (SP) B. Umamaheswar, the child was kidnapped by two unidentified persons in the early hours from Chirala three-road junction, where the infant’s parents, a rag-picking couple from Machilipatnam in Krishna district, were sleeping in front of a shop. The couple had come to Chirala to eke out a livelihood.

The parents immediately approached the local police station. Taking the case seriously, police formed seven special teams to trace the infant.

“During the inquiry, we analyzed CCTV footage from various locations and conducted extensive field inquiries. We also used the police department’s 360-degree CCTV technology, which played a crucial role in identifying the accused,” the SP stated.

Investigation revealed that the accused Dasari Srinu and Dasari Sanjeev Rao allegedly kidnapped the infant and sold him to Katta Adinarayana and his wife for Rs 1 lakh. The couple, who had been childless for nearly 25 years of marriage, had allegedly bought the child from the accused

Following sustained efforts, police apprehended all four accused and safely rescued the infant. The child was handed over to the parents on Saturday. The SP stated that stringent action will be initiated against all four accused.

Police have registered a case, and Bapatla district SP appreciated the special teams for their efforts in tracing and rescuing the kidnapped infant within 24 hours.
