Bangaru Kutumbalu: CM Naidu Steps In As Margadarshi, Adopts 250 Families in Kuppam

Naidu leads anti-poverty initiative in Kuppam, pledging holistic development for families

Vijayawada: In a major boost to the anti-poverty drive by the alliance government in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has announced his adoption of 250 Bangaru Kutumbalu (golden families) in Kuppam.

This is part of the CM’s brainchild, the Zero Poverty P-4 initiative, which aims to inspire affluent individuals to act as guiding lights ito disadvantaged families.

After Naidu announced the adoption of 250 ‘Bangaru Kutumbalu’ from the Kuppam constituency on Friday, officials presented the #IAmMargadarsi badge to the CM.

On Friday, a Zoom conference was held from the state secretariat, where the CM discussed the P4 initiative with elected representatives, district collectors and government officials. During the event, he also unveiled the #IAmMargadarsi poster.

The chief minister said, “I am adopting 250 families from my Kuppam constituency. I take full responsibility for their holistic development. I have been urging Margadarsis (mentors) to step forward; and now, I am not just saying it, but demonstrating it by adopting these 250 Bangaru Kutumbams. I will make a detailed development plan for them. I am a Margadarsi.”

He noted that nowhere else has such a programme been undertaken to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. “In the past, with the spirit of Janmabhoomi, we developed villages. Today, through P4, we are planning focused interventions to uplift the poor. This initiative has been designed to become a model for the entire country.”

“The P4 programme, aimed at empowering the underprivileged, will be sustained continuously,” the CM stated.

“We will prepare a development plan for each family identified as Bangaru Kutumbam. A survey with ten key questions is being done to assess what kind of support each family needs and what they are capable of doing. Based on this, we are preparing a vision document for every family.”

“Through short-term, medium-term, and long-term planning, we will formulate an action plan for their uplift. Every three months, a progress review will be conducted for each family,” the CM said.

Naidu went on, “Phase 1 of P4 will begin on August 15. To make this initiative a success, everyone, from me to the MLAs, must actively contribute. From the chief secretary to field-level employees, all must participate. Some districts need to improve their efforts in identifying Bangaru Kutumbams and Margadarsis.”

“Over the next 15 days, intense groundwork should be carried out at the village and ward secretariat levels. MLAs must pay special attention,” the CM said.

He announced, “The Zero Poverty P4 programme is being implemented through three models. In the first model, a mentor adopts a Bangaru Kutumbam and provides non-financial assistance. This approach does not have a time limit.”

“The second model, titled Fund a Need, is designed to provide direct financial support to Kutumbams with specific monetary needs and is time-bound. The third model involves adopting entire villages or mandals to fulfill broader community needs and organise developmental and welfare activities. This model is aligned with corporate social responsibility and is intended specifically for corporate participation.”

During the Zoom conference, the CM interacted with elected representatives and government officials. Inspired by Naidu, Madanapalle MLA Shahjahan announced the adoption of five poor families. The CM appreciated his gesture. Public representatives assured the CM that they would fully cooperate in implementing this programme.
