Attack On Ex-MLA’s House: Concern Over Declining Political Culture
Rivalry, violence shatters Nellore’s political grace: Reports

NELLORE: The late-night attack on the house of former MLA Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy on Monday has shocked the people of Nellore, known for its dignified style politics.
The district has witnessed many political rivalries in the past — whether it was between Nallapareddy Srinivasulu Reddy and Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy, Anam brothers and Nedurumalli, or more recently, the differences between Kakani Govardhan Reddy and Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy.
However, these differences were largely aired in speeches and statements, without indulgence in violence.
Even leaders with strong differences used to greet each other at public functions, and mutual respect was evident.
But the recent attack on YSRC leader Nallapreddy Prasannakumar’s residence reflected a growing hostility, suggesting that Nellore politics may adopt a faction-based style often seen in Rayalaseema. Videos of the damaged house shared widely on social media have added to the public's despair.
Concern was echoed by BJP district president S. Vamsidhar Reddy, He noted that Nellore, known for producing leaders of state and national stature, showed a worrying decline in political standards.
He cited the ongoing feud in Kovur constituency between former minister Nallapureddy Prasannakumar Reddy and current MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy. What began as political rivalry has now been upgraded to personal attacks and family-related mud-slinging.
Speaking about Prashanthi Reddy, the only woman MLA from Nellore district, he said that while new leaders often faced challenges, the personal and offensive remarks about her and her family by a leader like Prasannakumar were unacceptable.
