Atha To Face Kodalu’s Sister For The Kurnool Mayor’s Post

The Kurnool mayoral election has taken an interesting turn: Reports

KURNOOL: The Kurnool mayoral election has taken an interesting turn, with a mother-in-law contesting against her daughter-in-law’s sister for the Kurnool mayor’s post. They are representing rival political parties, ruling Telugu Desam and opposition YSRC.

Incidentally, Kurnool mayor’s post has been reserved for women from the scheduled caste category.

YSRC has fielded U. Suseela, wife of former MLA Manigandhi, while Telugu Desam has nominated Bolledula Vijayapratyusha.

Vijayapratyusha’s younger sister Priyanka is married to Suseela’s son. Despite their family ties, the two women will contest against each other representing rival parties.

The contest is significant for the Telugu Desam, as Kurnool assembly constituency is represented by minister T.G. Bharath. The ruling party is treating the mayoral election as a prestige issue and is seeking to secure control of the municipal corporation.

The YSRC has mobilised senior leaders to strengthen its campaign. K. Ram Bhupal Reddy, S.V. Mohan Reddy, and Manigandhi are working to rally party cadres and consolidate support for Suseela.

Both parties are taking the outcome seriously, which they see as a test of their political strength in this key city of Rayalaseema.

Kurnool Municipal Corporation has 68 wards with a total electorate of 4,79,861.
