Atchannaidu Says Dairy Sector Remains the Backbone of Rural Econom

He lauded the Indian Dairy Association for its sustained efforts in integrating scientific and technological advancements to make dairying more profitable and sustainable

VIJAYAWADA: The dairy sector remains the backbone of rural economy, providing a steady income to farmers, empowering women and generating large-scale employment in villages, AP Agriculture minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu underlined on Friday.

Addressing the Southern Dairy and Food Conclave 2026 at Kozhikode in Kerala, the minister said in Andhra Pradesh, dairying has emerged as a reliable source of daily income for farmers and a strong livelihood option for women self-help groups. For small and marginal farmers, in particular, animal husbandry has become a pillar of economic security, expanding employment opportunities in rural areas.

Atchannaidu pointed out that animal husbandry and dairying have been integral part of India’s economic, social and cultural life since ancient times. The sector plays a vital role not only in rural livelihoods but also in national economy, empowering women and providing nutritional security.

The AP minister underlined that strengthening the dairy sector through adoption of modern technology and scientific practices is a collective responsibility of both the state and central governments. He lauded the Indian Dairy Association for its sustained efforts in integrating scientific and technological advancements to make dairying more profitable and sustainable. He expressed confidence that the conclave will significantly contribute to the growth of India’s dairy industry. On the occasion, the Indian Dairy Association felicitated Nara Bhuvaneshwari, vice-chairperson and managing director of Heritage Foods Limited.

Congratulating the association for honouring the right person, Atchannaidu described Bhuvaneshwari as not just a successful business leader but also a compassionate individual deeply committed to social service, particularly in education, healthcare, women and youth development, and disaster relief.
