Atchannaidu Orders Probe Into White Gut Disease In Shrimp

Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister K. Atchannaidu has directed fisheries department officials to ascertain the scientific reasons behind the spread of white gut disease in shrimp across several parts of Andhra Pradesh and recommend measures to contain it.

VIJAYAWADA: Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister K. Atchannaidu has directed fisheries department officials to ascertain the scientific reasons behind the spread of white gut disease in shrimp across several parts of Andhra Pradesh and recommend measures to contain it.
Reviewing the issue on Saturday, the minister instructed officials to constitute task forces to inspect both registered and unregistered hatcheries as well as private aquaculture laboratories.
He said the government would not tolerate the supply of poor-quality shrimp seed, feed or fake laboratory test reports and warned of stringent action against those involved in such illegal practices.
Atchannaidu directed officials to submit a comprehensive report within seven days covering inspections carried out, samples collected and measures initiated to control the disease.
