ASR District Records Fewer BP, Diabetes Cases In AP
The Andhra Pradesh government conducted a survey under the Non-Communicable Diseases 4.0 programme for early identification and treatment of such conditions.
VIJAYAWADA: Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district has recorded fewer cases of high blood pressure and diabetes compared with other districts in Andhra Pradesh, health minister Satya Kumar Yadav said on Tuesday.
He said the tribal-dominated district had recorded fewer cases as people followed a traditional lifestyle, preferred natural food and engaged in physical work in their daily lives. However, he stressed the need for a scientific study to determine how the traditional lifestyle contributed to better health compared with people in other districts.
The Andhra Pradesh government conducted a survey under the Non-Communicable Diseases 4.0 programme for early identification and treatment of such conditions. The survey, which began on September 17, 2025, concluded on August 31, 2026, after health checks were conducted on 3,71,86,846 people, covering 86.97 per cent of the targeted population.
Of those screened, 59.29 lakh were found to have high blood pressure, including 11.79 lakh newly identified cases. Similarly, 481.15 lakh people were reported to have diabetes, including 10.72 lakh new cases.
Among suspected cancer cases, 22,110 people were identified with suspected oral cancer, 14,822 with suspected breast cancer and 18,837 with suspected cervical cancer. Test reports subsequently confirmed oral cancer in 2,026 people, breast cancer in 3,571 and cervical cancer in 2,076.
