ASI Finds Krishnadevaraya Inscription In Venkateswara Temple At Veligonda

ASI has discovered a 1521 inscription of Krishnadevaraya at Veligonda’s Venkateswara temple, recording grants of two villages and gardens for temple festivities.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has found an inscription of Krishnadevaraya engraved on a stone slab fixed inside the Venkateswara temple at Veligonda in Markapur district of Andhra Pradesh.
The inscription is in Telugu and is dated to 1521 Common Era. It records the gift of two villages, Garlladinna and Kattirallagumpa, and some gardens situated in Podili-sima of Udayagiri Rajya to the god Tiruvenggalanadha of Veligonda.
According to the inscription, the gifts were made by Rajyabharadhurandharudu Rayasam Kondamarusayaa for the merit of the king and himself. The endowment was intended to support the conduct of festivities and provide food offerings to the deity on the occasion of a lunar eclipse.
