Araku MP asks finance minister for tribal banks in agency

MP Tanuja Rani said these banks can provide financial services, such as microfinance, agricultural loans and livelihood support to the tribal communities

Visakhapatnam: Araku MP Dr Gumma Tanuja Rani has asked Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to establish tribal banks and insurance products in agencies and remote areas.

In a letter to the finance minister on Tuesday, the MP proposed an initiative to promote financial inclusion and economic development in remote areas by establishing tribal banks tailored to the unique needs of the communities living in the region.

She said these banks can provide financial services, such as microfinance, agricultural loans and livelihood support to the tribal communities.

Elaborating further, she said collateral-free loans for tribal communities would promote the production and marketing of tribal items, such as handicrafts, forest produce and organic farming products.

She also sought crop insurance, livestock insurance and health insurance to improve the lot of tribal communities in the agency areas.
