APSRTC To Launch 350 E-Buses In October In First Phase
APSRTC chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wanted e-buses introduced in the state as part of the modernisation of public transport and to reduce environmental pollution.
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will launch 350 e-buses out of the sanctioned 750 in October, with the remaining buses expected to be introduced by the end of the year.
APSRTC chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wanted e-buses introduced in the state as part of the modernisation of public transport and to reduce environmental pollution. He said the state government was considering replacing every diesel bus with an e-bus in a phased manner to provide better transport facilities.
The chairman said 750 e-buses had been allotted to Andhra Pradesh under the PM e-Bus scheme. He added that Naidu had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allot another 300 e-buses to the state.
He said work on installing electrical substations and charging stations for the e-buses was in progress and expressed confidence that 350 e-buses would be launched in the first phase by October.
Referring to the Stree Sakthi Scheme, Narayana Rao said it had benefited women by providing free travel. He said the state government had so far borne a financial burden of `3,000 crore under the scheme, while giving priority to women’s comfort and empowerment. Several persons with disabilities were also availing of free bus travel, he added.
