APSRTC Aims to Induct 1,500 Electric Buses

This apart, charging stations are being set up to support the fleet

VIJAYAWADA: The APSRTC has unveiled plans to induct 1,500 electric buses soon, with an initial rollout targeted around the Rajamahendravaram Pushkaram period.

This apart, charging stations are being set up to support the fleet. A modernisation of bus stations and depots is currently under way to offer better amenities to the passengers, stated the corporation’s managing director, Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, on Thursday.

Addressing the New Year celebrations at the RTC House, he said the committed efforts of APSRTC staff in successfully implementing the ‘Stree Shakti’ scheme have earned the transport entity the government’s trust and appreciation. He called upon the employees to preserve this goodwill and continue working with the same dedication.

Rao recalled that the Stree Shakti scheme was introduced in 2025 by the alliance government. “The flawless execution of the scheme by drivers, conductors, garage staff and employees at all levels has enhanced the government’s confidence in APSRTC, and this was acknowledged by the chief minister on the floor of the assembly,” he said.

Highlighting employee welfare measures, Rao said the government had agreed to clear the long-pending promotions in 2025 and that many employees had already been promoted, boosting staff morale. He welcomed the government order that provided alternative employment opportunities to medically unfit employees in other categories or departments. Nearly all pending employee dues have also been cleared, he said.

The programme, presided over by executive director (Administration) KS Brahmananda Reddy, was attended by executive directors A Appala Raju and GV Ravi Varma, FA&CAO Sudhakar Rao, assistant director (V&S) Madhu, RTC House officials, representatives of various associations, employees, outsourcing staff and Vijayawada PNBS personnel.
