APSCPCR Monitors Probe Into Foetus Found At Anantapur GGH
According to the team's findings, the remains recovered from the hospital premises were those of a foetus of about five months' gestation. A review of hospital records found no evidence that any newborn or child admitted to the hospital was missing

ANANTAPUR: The Andhra Pradesh state commission for protection of child rights (APSCPCR) has stepped up monitoring of the investigation into the foetus found on the premises of the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Anantapur, describing the incident as a matter of serious concern.
After videos of the incident went viral on social media, APSCPCR member Dr Sreenivasa Murthy sought detailed reports from the authorities concerned. A team from the district child protection unit (DCPU), comprising district child protection officer Manjunath and protection officer Chandrakala, visited the hospital and conducted a preliminary inquiry.
According to the team's findings, the remains recovered from the hospital premises were those of a foetus of about five months' gestation. A review of hospital records found no evidence that any newborn or child admitted to the hospital was missing.
However, the circumstances under which the foetus was found on the hospital premises and the identity of those responsible remain under investigation by the police and the Health Department.
The APSCPCR directed the authorities to expedite the investigation, eliminate CCTV blind spots on the hospital campus, strengthen surveillance in the obstetrics and gynaecology departments, and strictly enforce protocols for the handling and disposal of aborted foetuses and stillbirths. It also called for preventive measures to ensure such incidents do not recur.
Dr Sreenivasa Murthy said the commission would continue to monitor the case and issue further directions, if required, to ensure accountability.
