APSRTC To Launch Free Bus Travel Scheme For Women From Aug 15

Vijayawada:Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has directed the APSRTC to issue ‘Zero Fare Ticket’ to women passengers under the state government’s free bus travel scheme, which would come into force from August 15.
Naidu chaired the review meeting with senior officials here on Monday, after which he issued necessary directions to the corporation.
They must ensure that the ticket to be issued to the women passengers should have details of the route they take, state the amount of money saved through the free service women avail and provide them the full subsidy that would be provided by the state government.
Naidu opined that issuing zero fare tickets to women passengers would help them understand the benefit they receive. He asked the officials to develop the necessary software application for the purpose.
He discussed at length the financial aspects for implementation of the free bus travel scheme in other states and how much it would cost in AP. He stressed that the scheme should be operational from the upcoming Independence Day.
ON the functioning of APSRTC, the CM advised the officials to explore alternative sources of revenue and reduce operational costs to make it a more profitable entity. “There must be an action plan on the possible revenue generating methods and the requisite policy changes,” he said.
Naidu directed the officials to purchase air-conditioner electric buses in future and laid stress on conversion of existing buses to electronic buses, as this would reduce maintenance costs. He
The CM recommended in-house production of the electricity required for this. The corporation must attempt to set up charging stations in all RTC depots, he said.
