KAKINADA: A Special Court for ACB cases in Rajamahendravaram on Monday sentenced Bhukya Bala Krishna, a former assistant engineer (operations) in the energy department working with APEPDCL, to one year’s simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 in a bribery case.

The court also ordered that he undergo three months’ simple imprisonment in default of payment of the fine.

According to ACB officials, the complainant, Akula Vayunandana Rao of Kamalapuram village in Chintalapudi mandal, West Godavari district, is a farmer whose mother owns 3.99 cents of agricultural land in Raghavapuram village.

The assistant engineer and his staff had removed the electrical connection to a borewell on the land, stating that they would replace it with a three-phase connection.
