Kakinada: An ailing woman died while undertaking an MRI scan in a diagnostic laboratory at Eluru on Tuesday. The victim was N Rama Turasamma of Prathikollanka village in Eluru rural mandal of Eluru district.

The woman’s husband N Koteswara Rao, who staged a protest, said that his wife Tulasamma had fixed a pacemaker previously and he approached a doctor for a routine medical examination of her. The doctor advised an MRI scan. She was taken to the diagnostic laboratory.

“When MRI scanning is done, generally the lab technician removes any metals on the body of the patients. In this case, though I asked the technicians whether the ornaments were to be removed or not, they said that it did not matter. “

During the MRI scanning, she developed trouble and died. Following this, the husband staged a protest at the diagnosis centre. He requested the government and the police to ensure justice and take action against the lab. Eluru Two Town Circle Inspector YV Ramana told Deccan Chronicle that nobody lodged a complaint on the incident.
