AP Tops Anaemia Prevention Drive In First Quarter Of 2025–26

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh has secured first place at the national level in the implementation of an anaemia prevention programme for infants, children, youth, pregnant women and lactating mothers during the first quarter of 2025–26. The programme involves the distribution of iron and folic acid tablets and syrups.
The Union ministry of health and family welfare reviewed the implementation of the anaemia prevention programme across states and Union territories for the April–June quarter and announced the rankings. Andhra Pradesh stood first, followed by Haryana in second place and Telangana in third.
From April to June, the AP government distributed iron and folic syrup to 22.99 lakh children aged between six and 59 months. In the same period, 30.35 lakh iron and folic acid tablets were distributed to children aged between five and nine years, 29.84 lakh to adolescent girls, 2.69 lakh to pregnant women and 1.63 lakh to lactating women.
The programme has been implemented under Anaemia Mukt Bharat by the Centre since 2018, and Andhra Pradesh is carrying it out under the National Health Mission. Tablets and syrups are being provided free of cost to targeted groups, with the Centre contributing 60 per cent of the funds and AP bearing the remaining 40 per cent.
Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav appreciated the health department for securing first rank at the national level.
