VISAKHAPATNAM: MSME minister Kondapalli Srinivas on Friday said the Andhra Pradesh government is working to strengthen the branding of the renowned handloom centres of Mangalagiri, Dharmavaram and Ponduru to expand their presence in domestic and international markets.
Addressing the 12th National Handloom Day celebrations in Vizianagaram, the minister said a new handloom cluster is being established at Ponduru under the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) to promote innovative fabric designs using the region's globally acclaimed hand-spun yarn.
He said the initiative aims to enhance the value of Andhra Pradesh's traditional handloom products while creating better income opportunities for weavers.
Srinivas said that under the 'Nethanna Sevalo' scheme, Rs 25,000 was credited on Friday to the bank accounts of 51,952 handloom weavers across the state, including 709 beneficiaries in Vizianagaram district.
Meanwhile, agriculture minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu reaffirmed the government's commitment to the welfare of handloom weavers while participating in National Handloom Day celebrations at Tilaru village in Kotabommali mandal of Srikakulam district.

Home minister Vangalapudi Anita also reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening the handloom sector and preserving its rich heritage.
As a gesture of support, she purchased a handwoven saree directly from local weavers and interacted with artisans. Addressing the gathering, Anita said handloom weaving is not merely an occupation but a symbol of India's culture, tradition and artistic excellence. She praised generations of weavers for preserving the country's rich textile heritage and earning national and international recognition through their craftsmanship.
