Leaders demand Veldurthi remain in Kurnool

Kurnool: Leaders of Telugu Desam, YSRC, BJP, and people’s organisations staged a rally in Veldurthi on Thursday demanding that Veldurthi mandal remain in Kurnool district after the reorganisation of districts.

As the Pathikonda constituency has been merged into the proposed Adoni district, locals expressed concern that Veldurthi mandal, which falls under the Pathikonda constituency, may also be shifted to Adoni.

The protest began at the old bus stand, where the leaders garlanded the statues of Telugu Talli and Dr B.R. Ambedkar and paid tributes. Later, they took out a rally to the tahsildar’s office and submitted a representation to tahsildar Chandrasekhar Varma, urging the government to retain Veldurthi in Kurnool district.

TD leader Subbarayudu said that another representation would be submitted to the team of ministers visiting Kurnool on the 29th of this month and appealed to the people to attend in large numbers. Former MPP Dasaratharamireddy, Veldurthi Cooperative Society chairman Ramakanth Reddy, ZPTC Sunkanna, TD leaders, and members of women’s self-help groups took part in the programme.

YSRC leaders protest ‘false cases’, submit memo at Nellore SP office

Nellore: Senior YSRC leaders, led by regional coordinator Karumuri Nageswara Rao and MLC Parvathireddy Chandrasekhar Reddy, met officials at the Nellore district SP office on Wednesday, alleging that the coalition government is foisting false cases against their party leaders and workers.

They submitted a memorandum to DSPs in the absence of the SP, demanding an end to what they described as “politically motivated cases” filed during former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s recent visit to the district.

Speaking to reporters outside the SP office, Nageswara Rao accused the coalition government of targeting the YSRC leaders, citing arrests, barricades and lathi-charge during Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tour.

“Thousands came voluntarily to meet our leader, but now false cases are being booked against them. This exposes the government’s vindictive attitude,” he said.

Chandrasekhar Reddy alleged that police were acting at the behest of the ruling party leaders, filing FIRs without verifying the facts.

He claimed that over 25 cases have already been registered, including an attempt-to-murder charge against former MLA Ramireddy Prathap Kumar Reddy, whom he described as a two-time legislator known for public service.

The YSRC leaders also accused the government of misusing police to suppress opposition voices, pointing out that cases have been filed against leaders such as Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy and Anil Kumar Yadav.

Warning that such “illegal cases” could spread fear among the public, they said the party would consider launching a stronger agitation if the practice continued.

Forest staff attack: Case booked against Srisailam MLA, Jana Sena leader

Kurnool: Srisailam One Town police have registered a case against Jana Sena leader Ashok Routh (A1) and legislator Budda Rajasekhar Reddy (A2) following a complaint from Karimulla, the driver of a forest patrolling vehicle. The case relates to an alleged attack on forest staff on Tuesday night.

Police booked the leaders on Wednesday under sections 115 (2), 127 (2), 351 (2), and 132 r/w 3(5) of the BNS for obstructing public servants, causing simple injuries, and wrongful confinement.

According to reports, four forest department staff—deputy range officer Ram Naik, beat officers Guravaiah and Mohan Kumar, and driver Karimulla of Nekkanti range—were attacked after they stopped the vehicles of the legislator and his aides. Some of the attackers were reportedly under the influence of alcohol, leaving the forest staff unable to resist and forcing them to plead for compliance with forest rules.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan expressed strong displeasure over the incident and directed police to register a case and conduct a thorough probe.

DGP (CID) wants banks to cooperate in law enforcement

Vijayawada: DGP (CID) Dr. Ravi Shankar Ayyannar asked banks in AP to extend timely cooperation towards enforcement of law and safeguarding public trust.

The top CID official presided over a high-level meeting at the department’s headquarters in Mangalagiri. Superintendent of police (Economic Offences) and senior officials from banks and financial institutions across Andhra Pradesh participated in the meeting. It had been called to address pending complaints and deal with unresolved banking fraud cases, particularly those stalled due to incomplete documentation of First Information Reports (FIRs).

Dr. Ayyannar spoke about the provisions under Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988, including Section 17(A), requiring prior approval before investigating public servants, and Section 19(1), mandating prosecution sanction for certain corruption offences. He pointed out that 98 petitions are pending under Section 17(A) and 38 under Section 19(1), emphasising that these approvals are essential for registering FIRs and subsequent legal action.

The CID DGP requested banks to provide timely cooperation, pointing to their critical role in this regard, whether related to submission of pending KYCs, CC footage, suspicious transaction reports and related documents.

He spoke about Cybercrime helpline 1930 and portal, which enable citizens to report online financial frauds.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on sustained coordination between banks and investigating authorities to combat financial fraud, deliver justice to victims and restore public confidence.

YSRC to support NDA V-P candidate: Botsa

Kakinada: YSRC leader and MLC Botsa Satyanarayana on Thursday clarified that the party would support NDA Vice-President candidate Radhakrishnan. Addressing a press meet, Satyanarayana said the YSRC believes there is no “number game” in constitutional posts like the President and Vice-President.

He said the NDA already has a sufficient majority to ensure its candidate’s victory, and there is little point in backing opposition nominees. Recalling a precedent, he noted that during his tenure as Pradesh Congress Committee president, the YSRC — then in the opposition — had supported ruling Congress candidate Pranab Mukherjee.

Satyanarayana also criticised Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s appeal to support Telugu candidate Sudershan Reddy, saying such appeals cannot be considered. He pointed out that NDA nominee Radhakrishnan is a candidate from South India.
