KAKINADA: The government would not purchase paddy from Rabi crop after June 16 and the farmers should sell their produce at the Rythu Bharosa Kendras before this deadline.
This was stated on Sunday by the Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district joint collector Vaikhom Naidiya Devi. Some 2.82 lakhs metric tonnes of paddy from 34,900 farmers has been purchased through the RSKs this rabi season and a total of `620 crore was deposited into the farmers’ accounts.
The joint collector noted that many farmers have been waiting to sell their paddy. Many of them cultivated the Bondalu variety and the government purchased it. However, for the past 10 days, the government stopped the purchasing of this variety, as its target has been completed.
Kakinada district gave an indent of 30,000 metric tonnes of paddy for additional purchase. Farmers have not been selling their Bondalu variety of paddy with a hope of getting more than MSP. Some rice millers have purchased the paddy by paying more than the MSP. But they have not purchased the paddy for the past one week, seeking to reduce the price.
District civil supplies corporation officials said that two prominent rice mills in Kakinada district agreed to purchase the Bondalu variety of paddy at Rs 1810 per 75 kilos, bearing the transport charges too. The farmers pleaded that the officials expedite the process so as to deliver their stocks immediately.
