AP Targets 49.2 Lakh Children for Pulse Polio Drive

The National Immunisation Day campaign will be held on June 28, followed by intensive house-to-house verification and mop-up activities from June 29 to July 3.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has set a target of administering two drops of the bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine (bOPV) to 49.20 lakh children below five years of age during the Pulse Polio Programme to be held across the state on Sunday.

Health principal secretary S. Suresh Kumar on Friday chaired a high-level State Task Force on Immunisation meeting to review the final preparedness for the programme. He later held a virtual review with district collectors, district medical and health officers and district immunisation officers on vaccine logistics, micro-plans, IEC activities, field deployment, digital reporting and inter-departmental coordination.

The National Immunisation Day campaign will be held on June 28, followed by intensive house-to-house verification and mop-up activities from June 29 to July 3.

Suresh Kumar said India has remained polio-free for more than 15 years, while Andhra Pradesh has maintained its polio-free status for over 17 years. He stressed that no eligible child should be left out of the vaccination drive.

The health department has set up 29,873 polio booths, 59,746 house-to-house teams, 1,757 mobile teams for high-risk and migratory areas, and 1,144 transit booths. Around 1.31 lakh field personnel have been deployed for the campaign.
