AP Targets 16.63 Lakh Houses by 2029 to Ensure Home for Every Poor Family
Kolusu Parthasarathy stated that despite facing fiscal constraints, the government has extended substantial financial support to weaker sections

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government has drawn up an ambitious plan to construct 16.63 lakh houses between 2024 and 2029, aiming to ensure that no poor family in the state remains without a permanent home.
The housing drive, being implemented under various central and state-sponsored schemes, is among the flagship welfare initiatives of the state government.
On completion of two years of the present government in AP, housing minister Kolusu Parthasarathy said the government is working with a clear roadmap laid down by the chief minister to fulfil the dream of home ownership for all eligible beneficiaries.
He said the CM had directed the housing department from the outset to continue all sanctioned housing projects irrespective of the government under which they were approved and to complete them in a time-bound manner.
Under the PMAY 1.0 scheme, the government has distributed three lakh completed houses to beneficiaries across the state in November 2025. Another 2.5 lakh houses were handed over to the beneficiaries during the Ugadi festival this year. Officials are now working to complete an additional 2.70 lakh houses by June and 1.62 lakh houses by September.
Kolusu Parthasarathy stated that despite facing fiscal constraints, the government has extended substantial financial support to weaker sections. Additional assistance of `50,000 each is being provided to SC and BC beneficiaries, `75,000 to ST beneficiaries and `1 lakh to families belonging to the particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs). Minority beneficiaries are also being given an additional `50,000. The special assistance package is expected to cost the state over `3,300 crore, he said.
According to the housing minister, nearly 5.98 lakh SC, ST, BC and minority beneficiaries will benefit from the enhanced support. The government has also released `231.45 crore as additional assistance for PMAY Urban beneficiaries.
Housing construction under PMAY 2.0 is also gathering pace. Of the 46,636 houses approved by the central government for AP, 2,562 houses have already been completed and work is progressing on the others.
Parthasarathy said that 15.82 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAY 1.0 and PMAY 2.0 so far, with 9.46 lakh houses reaching roof level. The total expenditure on these projects is estimated at `20,260.74 crore.
An Awaas Plus survey has identified demand for 10.42 lakh new houses across AP under PMAY 2.0, highlighting the scale of housing needs that the government aims to address over the next three years.
