AP Takes Up ‘Census of India-2027’ By Appointing Officers

The district collector will be the principal Census officer while joint-collector will work as additional principal census officer and officers of district rank like district revenue officers are appointed as district census officers and others as additional district census officers

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has started the ‘Census of India- 2027’ by appointing the officers to take up, assist and supervise the Census exercise in the state.

Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand issued a GO Ms No. 5 here on Saturday. Accordingly at district level, the district collector to be the principal Census officer while joint-collector to work as additional principal census officer and officers of district rank like district revenue officers are appointed as district census officers and others as additional district census officers. Those working as sub-collector/RDO appointed as sub-divisional census officers, tahsildar as charge census officer and so on.

At town level, commissioner of municipally, nagar panchayat and officer appointed to special charge work as charge census officer and town planning officer and others to work as assistant charge census officers.

At municipal corporation level, municipal commissioner to work as principal census officer and others in various capacities for the census exercise.

The GO mentioned that as per the provisions of Section 11 of the Census Act 1948, any census officer or any person lawfully required to give assistance towards taking the census and who refuses to perform any duty allotted to him/her or any person who hinders or obstructs another person in performing any such duty shall be punishable with fine up to
Rs 1,000 and in case of a conviction shall also be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to three years.
